2017 OAU 43rd Convocation Ceremony Postponed/New Date

Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU postpones her 43rd convocation ceremony 2017.

OAU 2017 43rd Convocation Ceremony New Date

According to the school management the main reason for the postponement of her 43rd convocation ceremony earlier scheduled for December 13 to 16, 2017 is because of the ongoing national industrial strike action of the non-teaching staff unions in Federal government-owned universities.

Recommendation: OAU Ile-Ife Post UTME/Admission Criteria Scam Notice 2017/2018

The University management expresses immense regrets for any inconvenience the postponement might cause the general public, most especially their invited guests, the graduating students, their parents and guardians, friends and well-wishers, the alumni, lovers of Great Ife and all other stakeholders.

They also gave more reasons saying that the non-definite date for the suspension of the strike action made the indefinite postponement of the Convocation Ceremonies an unavoidable alternative.

It will be recalled that non-teaching staff unions in Federal government-owned Universities, comprising the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), have embarked on an indefinite strike action against government’s alleged disparity in the disbursement of Earned allowance to all the staff unions.

The withdrawal of services of the members of these unions has compelled the management of OAU to ask students to proceed on “End of the Year” break and the eventual postponement of this year’s (43rd) Convocation Ceremonies.

Please kindly share this post so as to reach others who are not yet aware that OAU has postponed her 2017 43rd convocation ceremony.

OAU Suspends All Religious Activities - DSA

All OAU religious activities has been suspended by the Department of Student Affairs in all its halls of residence.

OAU Suspends All Religious Activities - DSA

According to OAU DSA, the notification of the suspension says thus:

“This is to bring to the attention of all students that all religious activities is hereby suspended in halls of residence until further notice.

Also Read: OAU JUPEB FAQs

Any student that fails to comply will face immediate disciplinary action which may include revocation of studentship and expulsion.

Students are advised to pray in their individual rooms or move to the religious centre”

The religious centre is fifteen to twenty minutes walk from the ‘Awo’ hall which is the most populated hall of residence on campus. Taking such a walk five times daily might be more of difficulty than ease for most Muslim students and many Muslim students have seen it as an attempt to stop them from observing their daily prayers.

The DSA has wasted no time in executing this new order. There are reports that some members of the DSA and school security went to the two major hall mosques (Awolowo hall mosque and Fajuyi hall mosque) and destroyed all the temporary structures in it after sending the Students out of them.

The suspension notice was contained in a note signed by the Dean, division of student affairs and dated 4th June, 2017.
